One of my first themed projects, which I made while I was still acquainting myself with my MPC2000. I made this around 1999 / 2000 or so, sometime around then. At that point I was getting deep into the early Anticon output (a trawler net which included Mush, Rhymesayers, Def Jux, all that stuff), and I had been deep in the DJ Shadow / Solesides stuff for a minute already at that point as well.

For me, when I get insanely into something musically, I tend to kind of jump in there and tear it up and smother myself in it. Sounds weird I know, but back then the way I would do that is by making a megamix or remix of some kind, usually turntable-heavy or strictly MPC based.

On this one, I took a bunch of my Quannum / Solesides / Shadow stuff, and mixed it in with some of the Anticon related bits I had and mushed it all together through the MPC. This was recorded literally from out the back of it, with no additional mastering or anything like that. I sampled off vinyl and CD, and as well as being a sign of respect for a bunch of music I really enjoyed, I also used it as a way of getting used to the MPC and how it worked as a programming tool.

Most of my editing chops came from around this period - I'd go in on the step programming aspect, which allowed for the technical fades and ghost-notes and so on. I overused that stuff so much. Funny looking back and hearing all the stuff that you thought was so amazing at the time and now feels a bit embarrassing... Haha. Going through my minidiscs is bringing up all kinds of things for me!! It's nice to have it out there though in all honesty. I didn't have Bandcamp in those days (it started in 2007), so all the copies were on dodgy CDRs and third generation minidiscs. Anyway - here's a chance to hear this weird little project after all these years. Thanks for your ears.
