2001 Notebook

about

I made this using only a turntable, Yamaha SU10 sampler and a couple of minidisc recorders. I would make the backing tracks and loops on the Yamaha, start them in time with the acapella off the vinyl (or start the acapella first and then trigger the sequence on the Yamaha), and then record that to minidisc. There was never much overdubbing to be honest - you'll hear the one Edan remix where it has a scratched chorus - I did it there for sure (this was all totally pre-computer days for young Buddy). So the first chunk is remixes, and then there's a long loopy track near the end - on that there are no tricksy edits, no real 'mixing' to speak of - it's a loop sequence where i was essentially laying down a bunch of ideas and loops Ioved!
I found this recently and I still dig it - it had a lot of the essence of what I want in a track - switchups, rugged drums, weird sample sources - but it's just quite lo-fi and not a ton of frills. I hoe you enjoy it in the spirit in which is was created!
