about

I wanted to share some music with you from a friend of mine from a very particular era, someone I got to know back in the early '00s who basically entrusted me with an INSANE amount of music. Gigabytes of the stuff.

I haven't heard from the dude for a while now. He was always pretty quiet as a person but would write these super long notes, and was self deprecating to a fault. One of those people who wouldn't ever acknlowledge the quality of what they made - but still managed to pump out an inordinate amount of gorgeous music which almost rivaled that of Stars Of The Lid, and Kranky Records peeps like that. I mean it was stellar, and all done on a four track tape recorder. I often wondered exactly how he made these tones on a tape with little more than a guitar and effects pedals, it's mad.

The other day I found a CDR I'd made of some of his heavy hitters, I think I actually made it in 2006 and sent it to Southern Records - the distributor of Kranky, which was all Godspeed, SOTL etc. Unfortunately I didn't get the homie signed but it felt like the right thing to do.

I realised though that I hadn't posted this anywhere and I just can't stand to have it sitting there not being heard. I doesn't feel right. Admittedly I haven't kept in touch with him over the years, which sucks and I should see if I can sort that out. But I do know that judging by how much music he made, and how I felt like I might actually be the only one who has it apart from him, this is something that should be shared - now look, you may not even like it! So don't feel pressured at all. It is lo-fi. It is ambient for the most part (verging on post rock, some indie elements). You might love the shit out of it. You might think "eh, s'ayyyyt". Fair enough. But I just wanted to share it with people - it's been decades, so I feel like I would be remiss to just keep it to myself and not let anyone hear it.

I'm glad I found the CDR - it was the result of going through a ton of my old stuff, and towers of CDRs. Took ages but it was well worth it...

No track titles unfortunately, they exist but I can tell you honestly, I have no idea where the originals are and can't fathom ID'ing them with the CDR tracks.

I really hope you like it and enjoy spending some time in homie's world. It's a lovely little place and I think it's just extraordinary. You could call it outsider music. I don't know... I think he suffered from depression which may hint at the ambition of this music - I don't think he felt it was destined to be bigger perhaps? I couldn't say. But yeah - I only say that just to paint a picture of where he was at.

I know the Buddy's Buddies portion of my Bandcamp is modest but I see you all! I'm sure you'll be at least a little interested in this one, and I hope it sounds good to you. I didn't master anything or mix it again - this is all as intended originally. It's very much a headphone / at home listen.

I hope you're all well, on that note. Thanks infinitely for your dope dope support - come on, you KNOW that shit is incredibly gratefully received.

More bits coming soon.
